The transition period — what were those first days and weeks like?
Within the first moments of Winnie coming home, she was rolling over for belly rubs. We had to be very careful with approaching her, as sudden movements would and still make her a little nervous and she will retreat to the comfort of the couch. She quickly started to settle down in whichever room Michael and I were in, and was happiest at night when we would all watch television together. She was shy with our friends at first, but began to remember people quickly and is calm and friendly with the people she knows.
What has been the biggest joy of adopting Winnie? Any special moments or little quirks you love?
There's nothing like knowing Winnie is waiting for us every morning when we wake up. Our favorite quirks include her spinning in circles when she wants to go outside or have a treat, that she does little barks in her sleep, and snorts at us when she's feeling playful.
How was your experience adopting internationally through Never Alone?
Adopting through Never Alone was the easiest process. Communication was seamless, Winnie's profile was exactly as described, and pick up at the airport went smoothly. We appreciated getting pictures and videos of Winnie while she was still being fostered through the flight to Newark itself.
What advice would you give to someone who's thinking about adopting an international rescue dog?
You won't regret it! Adopting Winnie is the best decision we've ever made. As a bonus, she's already used to flying and is a great travel companion!
How has your life changed since bringing Winnie home?
Winnie brings a quiet comfort to a home that would feel empty without her now. We can't imagine our couch without her sleeping on it!
