Lael was found at Hongseong shelter after giving birth, left alone with no one coming back for her. She was rescued and has been in foster care ever since — where she has made it abundantly clear that all she has ever wanted is a person of her own to stay close to.
Lael is the kind of dog who walks up to a complete stranger, sits down next to them, and acts like she’s known them her whole life. She approaches new people with curiosity and warmth, lets anyone hold her without hesitation, and stays close to whoever is in the room — even if she just met them five minutes ago. She is deeply people-attached in the best possible way: calm, affectionate, and happiest when she is within arm’s reach of her person. One small note: people wearing dark clothing at night make her a little uneasy and she may quietly move away — she has never barked or snapped, she simply removes herself, which is very much her style.
Lives peacefully with a 5-year-old female mixed breed foster dog — no resource guarding, no conflict. She is mildly jealous when the other dog gets attention and will nudge her way in to be included, but without aggression. With unfamiliar dogs she needs time: she greets briefly on walks and moves on, and will initiate play only with dogs she already knows. Calm, low-key dogs are the best match.
| House trained | Yes — outdoor potty |
| Alone time | Up to 8 hours on weekdays — she settles quietly, though she does best when another dog is present. When left completely alone she may bark briefly once or twice before settling. |
| Barking | Very low. Occasionally barks at large shapes passing the window or cats outside. Stops immediately when told no. |
| Destructive behavior | No destructive behavior. One endearing quirk: if left alone for a long stretch, she carries a shoe from the entryway into the house — holds it gently and never chews it, as if keeping something that smells like you nearby. |
| Car rides | No motion sickness. Calm and stays in her spot for the whole ride. Waits patiently to be lifted in rather than jumping. |
| Favorite activities | Squeaky cloth toys — specifically fabric ones. Not interested in rubber or latex squeaky toys. Loves duck and chicken jerky treats, rabbit ear cartilage chews, and bully sticks. Happiest on a calm park picnic or a gentle hike with her person. |
Lael gets two walks daily — a short morning walk of about 10 minutes and a longer evening walk of around 1.5 hours. She loves walking and runs to the door the moment she hears the word. She pulls mildly on leash but not severely. She is a dedicated sniffer and will linger on interesting spots. Loud vehicles or motorcycles passing close by cause her to freeze and tuck her tail — she recovers quickly once they pass. She will pick up street food but releases it without any fuss when asked.
Lael was treated for anaplasmosis (a tick-borne bacterial infection) and made a full recovery — no ongoing issues. Currently healthy with no special care needs. Care note: she has a small, fine-boned frame — avoid encouraging her to jump from heights to protect her knees. No allergies — thoroughly tested across chicken, duck, lamb, rice, fish, pork, beef, and dairy, all clear. Monthly parasite prevention: NexGard Spectra on the 13th of each month, given year-round including winter.
Lael needs a home where she won’t spend long hours alone — she is people-attached and does best when someone is around for most of the day, or when there is another calm, low-key dog to keep her company. She is best suited as an only dog or paired with a very mellow, non-attention-seeking companion. She loves calm outdoor time — park picnics, easy hikes, neighborhood wandering. When something scares her, she retreats rather than reacts — a family that can gently buffer stressful situations for her will bring out her very best. She is a fast learner and adapts quickly — a neighbor or household dog to model behavior from would be a lovely bonus.
“Lael came to us after giving birth alone in a shelter, and yet she has no walls up at all — just an open, trusting heart pointed at whoever is nearest. She carries a shoe to the middle of the room when she misses you. She sits next to strangers like she’s been waiting for them. She is easy, she is gentle, and she deserves a home that will be there for her the way she will be there for them.”
Lael has found her forever family. Many wonderful dogs are still waiting for theirs.
